FEATURED COFFEE

Guatemalan
Direct Trade Coffee
Finca Villaure
Guatemalan Coffee
Direct Trade Coffee
It's all about the altitude for this coffee, grown in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes mountains of Guatemala. When coffee grows at high altitude it ripens slower and creates better bean density and gives a more consistent, cleaner cup.
The man behind this coffee is Aurelio Villatoro, the owner of the coffee plantation Finca Villaure. Villatoro is a fourth- generation coffee grower, and his family has owned the farm since the 1950s. In addition to running the day-to-day operations, Villatoro is also an expert mechanic and the music leader at his church.
The Guatemala Finca Villaure coffee sold at Grounds 4 Good is considered a medium roast. It offers a jasmine aroma with notes of grapefruit and honey with a clean, crisp finish.

Kapchorwa, Ugandan Coffee
Kabum Co-op
True Trade Coffee
The Kabum Co-Op has one goal in mind: to make as much money as possible for the people of Uganda by allowing them to bypass typical middlemen and sell their coffee direct to buyers on the world market. By doing that, they're able to sustain themselves and begin turning their country and their economy in a different direction. This is True Trade.
High on the western slopes of Mt. Elgon you'll find our coffee plants ripening beneath the Ugandan sun. Here in the Sipi Falls area of the Kapchorwa District, Bugisu Arabica thrives with a mix of latitude and altitude that doesn't exist many other places on earth. Consequently, the highland, shade-grown Arabica beans in this area are nothing short of stellar.

Bolaven Farms, LAOS
ORGANICALLY GROWN
This exotic coffee is a premium organically grown coffee. Farmers were paid above Fair Trade prices. When the French colonists inhabited Laos in the early 1900s, they considered its coffees among the best in the world. However, decades of war and disease left the industry in ruins. Through the efforts of Bolaven Farms, many are finding hope in their soil as they fight their way out of poverty while producing fantastic coffee.
From our partners at Bolaven Farms: “Our resident farmers could become proud land owners with productive family farms. Their hope is our joy. What the poor want is not aid, but jobs - real jobs. This is the dignity we are equally created for. Embracing this revealed desire of the poor, Bolaven Farms is committed to labor with our Resident Farmers, to put an end to poverty, one family at a time."

A Word from Sam Say: Sourcing Partner Bolaven Farms
Posted by Wendy White on Mar 14th, 10 | No Comments
Now that I am a farmer, I have a redeemed perspective of and new appreciation for the first rain of the year. The early rain does far more than break a dry, stressful season for our coffee trees; it serves as a token promise of the imminent harvests that are yet to come.
Some of our most exciting news is about BBC World's visit to Bolaven Farms. BBC has completed the filming of their next Earth Report which focuses on the biodiversity of Laos. Bolaven Farms is featured in the film as an effort to heal and redeem depleted land that has suffered from unsustainable “Slash and Burn” cultivation practices.
Bolaven Farms is boldly claiming “Beyond Fair Trade and Organic” in what we do:
Paying Fair Trade pricing based on quality and disseminating Integrated Organic System for improved crop yields.
Complying strictly to a zero tolerance for chemical and commercially produced inputs. All our fertilizers and pesticides are produced on-site using indigenous organic ingredients.
Working to reclaim the Plateau’s biodiversity that has been diminishing from deforestation and unsustainable “Slash and Burn” and “Shifting” cultivation practices.

A Game Changing Movement
Posted by Wendy White on Mar 5th, 10 | No Comments
A movement is growing across the country. People are changing things. People are done with business, NGOs, nonprofits, and churches as usual. They are looking for organizations that are engaged in meaningful, purposeful, authentic living in a real world with real needs.
We at Grounds 4 Good want to encourage, support, and serve this growing movement. Grounds 4 Good was created as a game-changing tool to fight injustices found in our world locally and globally. Simply put, we want everyone to “wake up…do good” in the trenches of everyday life.
Grounds 4 Good is a social innovation for causal people that delivers great coffee AND supports great causes. For every person that buys coffee from Grounds 4 Good, $5 dollars per purchase is directed to the cause of their choice for as long as they are members. It’s that easy.
It is time to shift the paradigm…to a new vision for the future. People above profits. Global good.
We need leaders, influencers, and social entrepreneurs who will lead businesses, NGOs, nonprofits, and churches that will transform communities, redeem the lost, seek the welfare of the city, encourage the oppressed, care for the orphans and widows, give a drink to the thirsty...people who will wake up and do good wherever they are.
